Ah, the sweet remedy of that four on the floor rhythm, blanketed with some chunky basslines and blissful piano melodies are those key ingredients for a groovy night of house music.

From the talented homegrown duo of Halogen from Atlanta to the one and only Duke Dumont, Opera Nightclub was given an evening full of, “Massive chunes!!” As Mr. Pete Tong would pronounce it. The folks with Liquified could not have picked a better one-two punch of house music talent on Friday, April 14th. This kind of music doesn’t come often on the big stage events in this bass loving city; but when it does, that quiet little ATL house music community comes out in full force.

Duke Dumont put on a fantastic performance, which even surprised me with how some artists tend to play here in Atlanta. This set even impressed some friends over in LA which has a well established house and techno scene. Duke Dumont took the Atlanta crowd on a journey from hits of his own work to even the dark side of the house genre. It was a little surprised to hear a little techno thrown in there as well which was a refreshing change of pace.

One great takeaway from this show was that there were several people attending the show who felt that Atlanta deserves more house music shows at the level of talent Liquified and Opera Nightclub is capable of booking. Regardless, it is always a memorable night of groovy music when we do get blessed with such artists. Duke Dumont is definitely one of those dance music bucket list DJs. You’ll get something a little different each time he gets behind the decks which can be quite a rare experience in this EDM era. The next time Duke Dumont is in your area, make the effort to catch one of his shows. Coming from a househead as myself, his sets are simply a recipe for endless grooves.
