The time is now upon us for Sunset Music Festival in Tampa, Florida. With the festival being outdoors and in the Tampa Bay Central Florida region during the heat of spring, there are some things that you should keep in mind to stay safe during the festival. Luckily for those of you planning to attend this year’s Sunset Music Festival, the festival’s website posted some helpful tips to keep you and your friends safe over the next few days. These tips are crucial to keeping you all safe so everyone can have as much fun as possible at Sunset Music Festival this year. Here are the tips provided:

WATER IS ESSENTIAL

There will be a lot of dancing this Memorial Day weekend and we don’t want anyone to get sick from overheating and dehydration. We encourage you to drink lots of water, but not too much in a short time frame.

There are plenty free water stations positioned around the grounds and you can enjoy unlimited refills using the official SMF water bottles or Bota bags and camelbaks, now allowed at Sunset this year.

Accidents surrounding music events have been associated with low levels of electrolytes that are lost along with water when one becomes dehydrated. Such low levels of electrolytes, especially salt, can lead to brain swelling, seizures, heart problems and even death. So be sure to alternate between water and sports drinks that will be provided for you.

BRING ON THE COSTUMES

Wear something comfortable, lightweight and easy to dance in while enjoying world renowned artists pumping great music. Dark colors absorb heat rays, so avoid wearing all dark clothes. You should also steer away from heavy fabrics and faux furs, always remembering that comfortable tennis shoes are the best option on the dance floor.

HAVE YOU SEEN MY FRIENDS?

SMF brings thousands upon thousands of amazing people from across the country, so it could be really easy to get separated from your group due to the sheer size of the event. Always keep track of where your friends are by setting up meeting points and sticking together. Look out for one another. If you and your friends have been sweating, grab some water for the group to replenish nutrients lost – you can’t live off dancing alone. We will have personnel stationed around the grounds, so be sure to ask for help if you or one of your friends needs it.

IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE?

Medical personnel will be readily accessible and ready to assist you at any time via the medical tent on-site. From Band-Aids to aspirin, assistance is available to you should you need anything at all. Gatorade will also be made available upon request. If you are feeling unwell, seek medical attention immediately. Your health and safety is more important than waiting for the drop.
