We are just a few short days away from the highly anticipated dance music festival of the southeastern region that is Imagine Music Festival. Although the festival has shifted dates to a later time of the year instead of its usual weekend in late August, keep in mind that we are still in the south and we all know how unpredictable Georgia’s weather can be. Our staff at Ravers Choice is no stranger to attending camping festivals around the country, especially here in our home state of Georgia. We have decided to help those who are getting ready to pack up the old camping supplies to head down to Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga. For those who will be attending their first camping festival, or even those who are seasoned camping festival veterans, making sure you are well prepared for a weekend of fun is crucial to having a good festival experience. We will break everything down from the basic camping supplies to having an arsenal of essentials and necessities for your survival of Imagine Music Festival 2017.
Camping Supplies
First and foremost, you are planning to camp you need to make sure you have your tent ready to go before you get to the festival. Go ahead and do a practice set up beforehand, even if the tent is new or used. Make sure that you have every necessary part for your tent so that you are not S.O.L. with something malfunctioning when you get to the campgrounds. Once you have your tent ready to go, next on your list should be ensuring that you have all of the necessary supplies for camping 3+ days. As most folks planning to attend IMF should know, Georgia can still be a bit muggy and hot during this time of year, and having just a tent will not provide the shade you will need while at your campsite. To help mark your campsite so that you and your friends can locate it in the mass of tents, a flag or totem is perfect to help identify the location. Trust us when we say that walking through a festival campground, at night or during the day, tents can start looking the same and you can easily lose your campsite. Make sure that you have something that will stick out so you can find your campsite with ease.
A small canopy tent is ideal for that extra shade, which comes in handy during the day when the sun is beating down and there’s no trees around for shade to cool you off. Also a tarp to lay down under your tent is another great suggestion, especially since the latest weather forecast is calling for possible showers on Friday during the day. We all know how terribly muddy TomorrowWorld 2015 was; although it certainly shouldn’t get to that point with just one day predicted to have a few showers, but it’s always good to be more prepared than not at all. That tarp will help keep your camping area free of tracking mud and grass into your tent, which can be a nightmare after a few days. For those who are not about completely “roughing it,” an air mattress is perfect so you can get some comfy sleep after a long day of dancing.
Clothing and other essentials
Knowing what clothes to bring is just as important as having proper camping gear. You want to be as comfortable as possible, and prepared for any type of weather since Georgia is so bipolar. Make sure to pack plenty of loose clothing that won’t attract heat or hold moisture. If you are into dressing up in costumes, do your thing, but make sure that they are not going to cause you to overheat. Since we are at the tail-end of summer, packing a hoodie or two, or even a light jacket, along with some pajama pants wouldn’t hurt because it will get chilly once the sun sets and you don’t want to be dealing with not having adequate clothing. Comfortable shoes is probably the most important part of your festival clothes. If you don’t have good shoes, your feet will be hating you and you’re going to have a bad time come day three after being on your feet for a few days. Don’t just bring one pair of shoes either, you should have extra shoes because you just never know what’s in store at a festival. This would seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised.
Along with your comfortable clothes and shoes, make sure to pack a good blanket to help bundle up just in case the temps get a little cold at night. This is one of those things that you might not think you’ll need, but you will damn sure wish you had it if you don’t bring it. Now that you have your clothes and sleeping supplies in check, you need to make sure that you have plenty of bug spray and sunscreen. As native Georgians, we will be the first to tell you that we have some nasty mosquitos that no one likes to encounter, so BRING YOUR BUG SPRAY!!
Snacks and drinks to stay nourished and hydrated!
Imagine Music Festival will be providing some awesome food via local vendors; but coming prepared with your own snacks and drinks to keep hydrated are absolutely vital. Some good snacks to keep energized throughout the day are granola bars, nuts, fruit snacks, and a few sweet treats just because. Basically any of your favorite snacks will do. Bringing snacks that have a little protein or packed with vitamins will help you stay fueled up for a weekend of dancing. Another awesome tip for bringing some good nutrition would be to pack sandwiches, or stuff to make sandwiches while at your campsite. Sammies are perfect for when you’re on a time crunch at a festival to see all your favorite artists and you don’t have a lot of time to go grab some food in the fest, or if you don’t really want to eat something too heavy on the stomach.
We know some of you Imaginers will be partaking in drinking alcoholic beverages, but staying hydrated is incredibly important to your safety and wellbeing. Make sure to pack plenty of water and even a few sports drinks along with your favorite booze for the party. In addition bringing some yummy snacks and drinks to keep you hydrated, be sure to bring lots of vitamin C like some Emergen-C powder mix to throw in your water. Trust us, you’ll be glad you brought this.
Miscellaneous
After you’ve ensured that all of your camping supplies are in check, your clothes are packed, and you have plenty of snacks and drinks ready, the final miscellaneous items are also essential to your preparedness. You should include lots of ziplock bags to keep your important things dry and free of dirt or debris. This one might seem a little obvious, but make sure to bring a cooler large enough to fit your drinks and perishable food items. Go ahead and pack that sucker full of ice before you get to the campgrounds so that everything is chilled and ready to go as soon as you get there. Ice will be sold at the festival stores, but it’s a good idea to get your first batch prior to arrival.
Electronics like a portable speaker for music at your campsite is a plus that everyone can enjoy; and if you have one, bring it because you will be so glad that you did. Make sure to bring plenty of batteries for all of your electronic devices. You don’t want to be the one having to search for those when you get to the festival. Our favorite survival item to include is a portable power bank. Those are absolute life savers for when your phone or other mobile device that you might have needs recharging when power sources are limited. Also, flashlights and camping lanterns are crucial for your nighttime activities at Imagine. Lighting will be minimal in some places in the campground areas, and walking at night can be dangerous without the help of a lantern or flashlight. Plus no one wants to be camping in the dark, so bring plenty of portable lighting!
What You Cant Bring Through the Tollbooths
Don Diablo’s Hexagon record label has been releasing hit after hit over the better part of the last year. The latest release from this hot label out of the Netherlands is by the Belgian producer named DJ Licious. Although summer is coming to a close, it’s certainly not the case for some of those lovable summery vibes. DJ Licious has done just that with his newest future house track, “I Can’t Stop. This one features a nice little vocal hook to start, which takes us into a delightful little piano melody and a groovy future house bass line.
This kind of track seems like a perfect addition to anyone’s end of summer playlists. “I Can’t Stop” is one of those laid back melodic house tunes that is ideal for jamming in the car, or even relaxing by the pool for enjoying the last days of the summer season. It has that chilled-out Miami pool party feel to it that will have you bobbing your head and grooving along to the beat. We are now less than two weeks away from gathering in Atlanta Motor Speedway for the second installment of the newly expanded Imagine Music Festival. This stacked lineup should have dance music fans of all genres just anxious as ever as we get closer to the festivities. Going a little deeper into our picks of a few artists to recognize, this is for those house heads that will be in attendance at IMF. And that artist to add to your must-see list is none other than Will Clarke. This house music prodigy should be on any Imaginer’s radar looking for a groovy fun at IMF.
Hailing from Bristol, England, a small city southwest of London that is a hotbed for house music talent, Will Clarke has become a prominent name in the house music scene. Will Clarke has been an absolute beast in the studio, pumping out several rompers over the last few years as a producer. He has been producing music for over a decade, but he really began to pop into the scene with the release of his insanely popular single, “Big Booty,” in the spring of 2014. Will Clarke receive loads of support from some big names in house music like Jamie Jones, MK, Low Steppa, and more.
Will Clarke’s producing talent has taken the house scene by storm landing him a spot in Claude Vonstroke’s Dirtybird cult-like family. Will has performed on iconic stages in Ibiza and many parties in Bristol through his career, but his DJ talent is a small portion of his musical abilities. In the studio, Will Clarke is an absolute beast. He has produced for several prominent house music labels such as Relief Records, Dirtybird, Food Music, and ToolRoom. One of Will Clarke’s biggest releases from the Dirtybird Records was alongside Shiba San with, “Give It To Me,” which received a ton of support from major names in dance music across the festival circuit for quite some time.
After a standout 2014 and 2015, Will Clarke has continued to deliver hot tracks from the studio like, “Booty Percolatin’,” from Dirtybird and his single, “Techno (Not Techno),” which both were heard all over shows and festivals across the globe. It seemed as though every house DJ featured some form of work from Will Clarke across the festival circuit and parties all over the world.
Along with having an incredible producing talent, Will Clarke’s sets are a house music lover’s dream. With Will Clarke behind the decks, he’ll take you on a journey through his influences of UK house music roots and the house scene of the White Isle of Ibiza. Imaginers will be in four-on-the floor bliss with Will’s chunky bass lines and booty shaking beats. Get ready for some of the most groovy house tunes you will hear all weekend at Imagine Music Festival from the extremely talented, Will Clarke. To get a feel for the style of tunes Will Clarke will be playing at Imagine, here is an exquisite live set from his performance on this year’s Holy Ship! festival cruise. It’s full of some house music heaters, and we know that his set at Imagine will bring the heat as well. You will be able to check out Will Clarke at the Disco Inferno Stage with the rest of the Dirtybird players like Shiba San, Claude Vonstroke, Ciszak, and Dateless, while at Imagine Festival this year. It will be very reminiscent of how all the Dirtybird guys get together for the growing Dirtybird Campout festival in Southern California. Having all those Dirtybird house music juggernauts will be a romping good time!
Imagine Music Festival is fast approaching for what is expected to be a huge year for its 2017 edition. This newly expanded 3-day dance music festival with camping will take place on September 22-24th, at Atlanta Motor Speedway just south of Atlanta, Georgia. As we prepare to gather once again on the grounds of AMS, let’s take a look at some of the great artists that IMF will be bringing to the table in a few weeks. For those looking to get their groove on at the Disco Inferno stage on day two, look no further than the soothing, laid back tunes of Nora En Pure.
Daniela Niederer, a South African-Swiss house producer better known as her stage name, Nora En Pure, has become a prominent name in the deep house genre. Coming off of a career defining 2016, Nora En Pure developed a unique style of her own by implementing elements from her South African heritage of exotic, tropical influences, and tribal percussion sounds combined with the groovy deep house and indie dance productions.
After a few years of success in producing music, Nora En Pure joined forces with the Helvetic Nerds, which consists of a talented group of Swiss dance music producers like EDX, Chris Reece, Croatia Squad, Daniel Portman, Calippo, Sons Of Maria, and Me & My Toothbrush, just to name a few. Most of the music from the Helvetic Nerds has that signature twist on the deep house sound spanning from nu disco, indie dance, to even a little tech house and tropical house influences.
In 2016, Nora En Pure had a break out year with releasing a several hits like, “Lake Arrowhead,” “Morning Dew,” “I Got To Do,” and her massive remix of Oliver Heldens & Shaun Frank’s, “Shades Of Grey.”
For those who might be new to the indie/deep house style that Nora En Pure plays live, on Saturday at Imagine Music Festival those in attendance will have the chance to hear something exciting and different. Her one of a kind melodic blend of chilled out house tunes will be like a breath of fresh air amidst the aggressive EDM sounds that make up a dance music festival. For house music lovers, we know that you won’t be disappointed in hearing a relaxing and groovy set from the Helvetic Nerds shining star, Nora En Pure. Be sure to take time on day two [Saturday] and check her out at the Amazonia Stage. Her set will definitely be a fun experience for all dance music fans. To get you excited to experience Nora En Pure live, here is a recent mix of her recurring Purified podcast. Here you will get a feel for the style of house music that Nora En Pure will be bringing to the Disco Inferno Stage at Imagine Music Festival.
There is something new upon the horizon for the Atlanta dance music community. One of Atlanta’s rising stars, Halogen, is planning to introduce a fresh new approach to bringing house music to the scene. The duo will be hosting a series of events under the name Housewerk at the Music Room in Atlanta, which will begin on Saturday, July 29th. Halogen is seizing a golden opportunity to deliver a unique event to the city as well as utilizing it as a release party for their debut single on Cloudkid Records, “Can’t Resist.”
This exclusive experience is something to be excited about if you are a house music lover in the bass heavy city of ATL. Halogen has some big plans up their sleeves for Housewerk by bringing a carefully selected lineup along with special guests to spice things up a bit. Grab your tickets now and get ready to put on your shuffling shoes for some fresh new tunes from Halogen and company at the Music Room this weekend. Information on purchasing tickets for the new Housewerk event on July 29th can be found by visiting the event page here.
Atlanta’s own Halogen has delivered yet another tasty edit of a classic song from Bag Raiders “Shooting Stars.” The duo teamed up with vocalist, 8 Graves, who sang the vocals for the track. This tune allows you to sit back and relax while the soothing disco vibes surround you, comfortably taking you on a musical journey in just under four minutes.
The catchy tune’s original work from Bag Raiders was a groovy alternative sound which was originally released back in 2008 and again in 2009. The song went into the shadows for a while and then resurfaced around the summer of 2016 when it became a popular meme video being used to edit people falling into different edited sceneries in a funny way.
Backstory aside, the song has been remixed a number of times by some big names in the industry like Elephante, POLARGHST, Onderkoffer, and Cassian, to name a few. But one that sticks out to me the most is this new delectable edit by Halogen. No matter how many times I give it a listen, I find myself bobbing my head and having the sudden urge to get up and groove around. The synth work is fantastically blended with the classic synth sounds of the original track by Bag Raiders. It’s certainly a different direction than most of the other works by Halogen; but needless to say, I am liking it a lot. After just one listen, I hit that download button immediately, and I know you will too. You can check out Halogen’s edit below, and download it for free as well.
After dropping a first phase lineup that would exceed most other festival’s full rosters, the three-day music and camping festival is releasing the next round of performers for its 2017 event. Returning to Atlanta Motor Speedway in Atlanta, Georgia on September 22 through 24, 2017, Imagine has put an exclamation point on its performer lineup with a mix of new heavyweights, including:
Big Gigantic: Perennial fan favorites, Big G, has made a name for themselves by pairing electronic beats with their signature live saxophone and drums. Tracks from their latest release, last year’s Brighter Future that included a bevy of collaborators, is currently getting the remix treatment from acts like Luca Lush, Kasbo and Naderi.
STS9: Originally from Georgia and affectionately known to fans simply as “Tribe”, this tight knit group of electronic rock instrumentalists with a meteoric rise to fame, is now nearly 20 years into their illustrious career. Perfecting their self-described “post-rock dance music” through live rock instrumentation on one of their many tours, STS9 is one of the top-grossing live acts globally.
Claude VonStroke: A producer obsessed with the cross-pollination of genres, Claude VonStroke has made a name for himself as a house and techno pioneer with the chops to craft pristine, albeit laid-back remixes. This year, as the owner of Dirtybird Records, VonStroke will be joined by Shiba San, Will Clarke, Ciszak and Dateless on the label’s branded stage at Imagine.
G Jones: A favorite of the underground bass scene, G Jones has emerged as a staple on the festival circuit having played such notables as Bonnaroo, Euphoria, Camp Bisco and more. His unique blend of distorted bass and trip visuals make for one of the more energetic shows on the circuit.
Illenium: As a relative newbie to the game, Illenium has taken big strides since the release of his debut Ashes in 2016, having remixed Dawn Golden, ODESZA and Oh Wonder, amongst others.
NGHTMRE: Originally a trap and house producer, NGHTMRE released an eponymous EP in 2016- considered by many to be one of the top dance/electronic contributions of the year. The recently released “End of the Night” is a collaboration with Ghastly that is an epic example of what to expect at Imagine.

Memorial Day weekend came to a close in style for Sunset Music Festival 2017. The 2-day EDM festival in Tampa, Florida capped off its 6th year event with Major Lazer, Above & Beyond, RL Grime, and Zeds Dead as headliners. Disco Donnie Presents, the main promoter which organizes SMF, has brought the heat with delivering top-tier lineups each year. It was no surprise to expect an excellent weekend of dance music for SMF 17.
Tens of thousands of dance music lovers packed the venue outside of Raymond James Stadium to have some fun in the sun with a stacked lineup of EDM talent. There were plenty of hidden gems for both days of Sunset. Most would think that the best performances came from the main stage and the second stage, or Eclipse stage, but I would have to disagree. On of the best places to be at Sunset was actually the Horizon Stage.

This stage had something special scheduled to close the second day which was a great surprise to us when the lineup was first announced. The small stage in the back hosted a plethora of tunes from different styles of house, trance, and a special live performance as well. Some noteworthy sets were Brohug, Drezo, Cedric Gervais, and Gareth Emery on Saturday. For Sunday, Kungs, MK, Yotto, and Goldroom live was a fantastic way to close the festival.

Goldroom was the only live band on the lineup for SMF. Their set was truly impressive because they sounded exactly as they do in studio which is very hard to come by with a live band. I felt that it was necessary to check them out since they were one of the few I have never seen live before. That was one of the best decisions made all weekend. Both days 1 & 2 were loaded with great performances which made it difficult to venture out and see other artists.
After finding some time to check out some other stages, up next was the bass heavy Eclipse stage. A few big sets to come from day 1 at Eclipse were San Holo, Ghastly, and Kill the Noise. As for day 2, both Kayzo and Illenium stole the show with some great performances at the end of the night.
As for the main stage, I was able to check out K?d, 4B, and the legendary A-Trak on day 1. For day 2, I had been anticipating Alok since the lineup reveal. His style of house which is known as Brazilian bass, is something fresh that will definitely be heard more this festival season.

Sunset Music Festival had a fantastic turnout. The event drew a large crowd of attendees, had incredible stage production, delivered a lineup of some new and different names along with some of the A-list headliners, and provided some great food and beverage with a nice cool down tent hosted by Bud Light to boot. This EDM festival has developed from a small one day event to a fast growing 2-day music festival. SMF has certainly made a name for itself, and established a prominent brand for dance music festivals among the east coast region. With that said, we certainly hope to see Sunset Music Festival return in 2018 and years to come.
