Majestik As Fak with Kill The Noise and Botnek

Kill the Noise and Botnek ended their 44-city fall tour in Atlanta and showed no signs of tiring. This tour stop featured Two Fresh, Botnek and Kill The Noise at the Masquerade in Atlanta. Botnek is an upcoming duo from Montreal that has made some waves lately playing at Tomorrowworld and even fixing that overplayed #selfie track by The Chainsmokers. Kill The Noise has been around since 2008 when his “Kill Kill Kill” album came out. He is now signed to OWSLA and has collabs with Skrillex. He really needs no introduction.

Two Fresh brought rap/trap elements to kick the show off. They exchange roles as hype men and DJs throughout the show which plays well in ATL. Botnek and Kill the Noise changed the vibe from Two Fresh significantly. Botnek brings the bass with more of a rock and roll energy and jumped into the crowd at one point. They spent plenty of time standing on the DJ table. The Grind house collab with Steve Aoki that has been around since Halloween made an appearance during the set and the crowd went wild . They mixed in a lot of rock including songs from Offspring, REM, Nirvana, White Stripes, Queen and Incubus. Kill The Noise’s set showed a level of polish that you would expect from someone in the scene so long. He looked relaxed maybe even confident. At one point in the set Kill the Noise announced to the crowd that they would know the next drop and then played a remix of Incubus’s “Drive.” Kill The Noise announced the some of the crowd chants would be featured on an upcoming song and ATL gave it their best. I look forward to hearing this upcoming release. I have seen Kill The Noise twice in Atlanta and his tours stand out as some of my favorite shows. Kill the Noise has an upcoming EP of original work planned so keep an eye out for that and don’t miss him if he is back in 2015.

Here is a sample of what the tour sounds like:

Brillz Twonks Out The ATL With Snails at Opera Nightclub – Recap

Atlanta is well known for its support for the trap and moombahton side of EDM. Bringing Brillz, the TWONK master himself, and Snails to “Traplanta” is without a doubt a recipe for success. This was the trap star’s second time playing at Opera, and one of the many within the city of Atlanta. His first show at Opera had an amazing response, and this past show was just as great. This event at Opera Nightclub was part of the Twonkaholics Tour for Brillz, featuring Snails and even DJ Carnage for his NYE date in Milwaukee.

Snails opened up with his unique sound that he once coined as “vomitstep”. His music can be heard at festivals and other events alike. One of Snail’s breakout tracks that brought him into the light of EDM was his hit with ETC! ETC! called, “RUBBR;” which of course, he threw in his set that night. Snails played some awesome tracks that had his special “vomitstep” style added to them. Everyone was grooving and having a great time during his funky set. But that performance was only the tip of the iceberg.

Without any break in action, Brillz took to the decks and absolutely killed it. The dance floor stayed packed out and going insane for Brillz and his incredible set. He played some of his classics like “RVTCHET BITCH” and the crowd favorite, “Fuzzy Peach.” His blend of hip-hop influence with EDM together joined with his high energy performances are some of the many reasons why Atlanta supports Brillz so much. I don’t think there was a single person that was not having a great time during Brillz’s set. The crowd got so hyped that when Brillz dropped his last track, the crowd stormed up on the stage in front of the DJ booth.

I thought that moment right there summed up the whole night. The music was bass heavy, the dance floor stayed full and Brillz definitely brought out everyone’s inner weirdo. If you have not been able to see either Brillz nor Snails live, you are missing out big time! Check out the Brillz EDC Orlando set, TWONK Team Vol. 5, and a Snails mix below.

Life In Color Unleash With Borgore & Pegboard Nerds – Atlanta (Recap)

Life In Color tour has made its rounds, once again, landing back into the city of Atlanta. Life In Color is the world’s largest paint party that brings top tier EDM talent and an incredible production. There are many paint parties out there, but none can do it better than the Life In Color tour. This year’s edition of Life In Color brought Borgore and Pegboard Nerds to the Atlanta stop of the tour. Those two names alone scream a great time; especially here in Atlanta with all that trap and bass. Now, let’s combine that music with a few paint cannons, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a paint party!

Everyone was excited and ready for a great time, and both Borgore and Pegboard Nerds definitely delivered. Pegboard Nerds started the night off just right with their blend of bass music and dubstep with a little bit of house sprinkled in. I have never seen a crowd more ready to be blasted with paint before. Once the paint cannons showered the crowd, the energy through the roof. Everyone seemed to be loving their set, including myself. Their style of music was a perfect way to get everyone ready to get down and dirty to Borgore later.

Closing out the night was the one and only, Borgore. There is just something about Borgore that makes everyone get wild. His sets have such dirty, filthy, grimy bass that makes crowds get, dare I say, ratchet. Borgore played a great set and had everyone in the venue shaking it from start to finish. I have seen Borgore several times now and he has yet to disappoint.

Life In Color did a wonderful job all together, and made this year’s Life In Color event one to remember. Everyone got painted and danced the night away to some great music from Borgore and Pegboard Nerds. I would highly recommend going to a Life In Color paint party if you haven’t experienced one yet, you wont regret it. The event tours all around the world, and they even have a 2-day festival in Miami in December. Check out the Life In Color website to see if it is coming to a city near you and grab your tickets now.

Big Gigantic At The Tabernacle, Atlanta – Recap

On the night of Halloween in Atlanta, people packed into the historic Tabernacle venue to get funky with the one and only, Big Gigantic. Atlanta has always been very supportive of the unique duo from Colorado known as Big G. The group did a show on the same night in Atlanta in 2013 with great success, and this night was certainly no exception. This event was part of Big Gigantic’s Touch The Sky Tour, and along with them was Paper Diamond.

Attendees came dressed in all sorts of costumes for Halloween, and were more than ready to dance the night away. From the start to finish, the dance floor stayed packed out and the vibes were palpable. The guys came out on stage dressed as Cheech and Chong, which I found was oh-so-fitting for the two. There was not a person in the venue that did not have a smile on their faces. Everyone was getting down and funky to the awesome music that the guys were playing.

Big G played a lot of music from their latest album, The Night Is Young , and infused many popular electronic tracks of today mixed with that wonderful sax sound we all know and love. One of my favorite points of the night was towards the end of the performance where the guys played an edit of Michael Jackson’s, Thriller. The large monitors on stage played clips of the famous music video, and the whole crowd went crazy when they added the drums and sax into it. I saw everyone doing their own interpretation of the Thriller dance, and it was just an all around fun moment of the show.

The crowd was amazing, the music was funky, and the night was definitely one that I, or anyone else who was there, will never forget. The city of Atlanta truly loves Big Gigantic, and that is why these guys love to play there as much as possible. These guys are a treat to see live, if you have not done so, you need to make that happen soon. Check out their latest album below, The Night Is Young.

Dada Life Is Behind The Bottom 100 DJs Parody To DJ Mag’s Top 100 List

After the much anticipated DJ Mag Top 100 DJ list was announced back in mid October, the interwebs was swirling with mixed emotions. As to no surprise to the many people who do not really care for that type of ranking system, many of the top 100 DJ’s were merely there because of popularity rather than talent. Shortly after the top 100 was revealed, a parody to the top 100 list was made called Bottom 100 DJ’s. Social media was swirling, and the Bottom 100 list went viral. For a short period of time, no one really knew who the mastermind(s) was behind the hilarious alternative list. Now the truth comes out; and the answer is, Swedish house duo, Dada Life.

Dada Life did, however, give us a few clues that something was up by tweeting Deadmau5 that he was the number one on the Bottom 100 DJ list a few weeks ago.

Even though they were posting on social media about the Bottom 100 list, still no one had any idea that they were the guys behind the parody list. Fool’s Gold Day Off – Atlanta Recap

If you live in Atlanta and you don’t like rap you probably have a hard time finding people that relate. Atlanta is the center of the hip hop universe. Fool’s Gold catered to the city and the crowd and every set leaned towards hip hop rather than EDM. The Fool’s Gold Day Off headliners Low Pros, comprised of A-Trak and Lex Luger, formed here about a year ago and that helped make this lineup special for Atlanta. That led to a sold out crowd on Masquerade’s top floor, Heaven.

ScreenHunter_07 Nov. 03 17.59

Atlanta Native OG Maco came on earlier in the night and rapped a solid version of “U Guessed it.” It let you know that the rappers here are talented. Plenty of rappers sound terrible live but apparently A-Trak doesn’t invite them. Since this was Atlanta the lineup was hometown heavy so you also got to see Heroes x Villains and Que.  Que is best known for the song “OG Bobby Johnson” which got popular when Lebron tweeted about it around a year ago. Que’s set impressed but after this point so many rappers came on stage that the sets started to blend together. By the time Travis Scott or Danny Brown got on stage there were probably 40 people up their with them and the line between the stage and the crowd got a little blurry. The crowd was full of people that knew every lyric so during main verses you heard the crowd echo Danny Brown or Travis Scott. In my experience with concerts in Atlanta crowd involvement is high whether its an EDM show and you see everyone dance or just how often you hear “ATL Ho!” This translates to a great rap show as well, hearing the entire crowd flow makes the experience worth the price of admission.

Something Wicked 2014 (Houston, TX)

On the weekend prior to Halloween 2014, thousands of ghoulish creatures donned their scariest garb and descended upon the city of Houston last weekend for the annual Something Wicked music festival. With a stacked lineup including the likes of Bassnectar, Martin Garrix, Kaskade, and Dillon Francis, there was no shortage of musical variety for all to enjoy. The lineup, vibes, and people were all definitely something wicked to talk about.

This 2-day Halloween celebration was oozing with spectacle as elaborate pyrotechnics and colorful beams of lasers captivated the eyes of all who dared to watch. Enormous stage structures such as a moving 20 foot skeleton, and cable flying witches skimming above the heads of festivalgoers were among the more memorable scenes etched on everyone’s minds. Since it was a Halloween themed festival, there was a plethora of amazing costumes in the massive sea of people that attended. From a crew of Where’s Waldo themed friends, to an evil looking Jigsaw doll from the Saw movies, and even a life sized realistic tyrannosaurus rex were among those found roaming these haunted grounds. Wicked costumes and even more wicked music were the dominating theme for both fright-filled nights.

The most highly anticipated sets appeared to be from Kaskade and Martin Garrix and according to the crowd energy, neither of these men disappointed. Kaskade delighted everyone’s ears with groovy remixes of fan favorites such as “Atmosphere” and “Eyes” while pleasing the eyesight with bright, breathtaking fireworks to round off a truly magical closing set. Martin Garrix released high-octane energy at his set with heavy beats and fast-paced rhythms to match. With favorites like “Animals” and “Wizard” spinning, there was no such thing as chill and sweet in this pumped up crowd. Drinks, clothing, and other random objects were spotted being launched into the air with every beat drop as the crowds erupted into cheers and smiles. Honorable mentions for some stand out  sets were Borgore, Bro Safari, Deorro, and Flosstradamus.

Most importantly, all artists at this festival were amazing in their own ways and a pleasure to experience. There was no such thing as an empty stage anywhere and the love from Houston was definitely felt everywhere. Overall, the festival was a great success from the enormous line up, to the amazing production, and to the always wonderful attendees with their incredible costumes and vibes. Both days were equally fun for all, and made for great Halloween weekend full of music and excitement.
