5 Reasons You Should Attend Imagine Music Festival 2015

As we enter the month of August of 2015, it can only mean one thing. Imagine Music Festival is just around the corner. This one of a kind electronic dance music festival located in Atlanta, Georgia is shaping up to be on of the top music festivals in the east coast of the U.S. Founded by one of Atlanta’s leading promotion companies, Iris Presents, this home-grown festival is beginning to separate itself from the competition among the plethora of music festivals in this region of the country. Imagine Music Festival has been ranked as one of the top festivals in the world and chosen as one of 15 festivals to attend by Fest300. Here are 5 good reasons that you should plan to attend Imagine Music Festival this year.

1. Location, location, location

Imagine Music Festival is located in the heart of Downtown Atlanta along the beautiful Atlanta Beltline. You really can’t get much better with the scenery of the Historic Fourth Ward Park and Masquerade Music Park. Watching the sunset each evening last year was a great addition to some of the fantastic performances and vibes at the festival. With IMF being very close to downtown Atlanta, it can be easily accessed from pretty much anywhere you might be coming from. Along with a great location, hotels are widely available around the area for those who are traveling long distance to attend.

2. The diverse lineup

Once again, this festival has delivered a diverse lineup full of amazing talent across the board. Imagine Music Festival truly mixed things up this year by keeping it simple, but still bringing some well-known names that everyone will enjoy. Electro house duo Dada Life will turn the festival into Dada Land and make everyone go a little bananas. Morgan Page and Felix Cartal will bring some incredible uplifting progressive and electro tunes that house fans will absolutely love. A few legendary acts will also be joining the fun. There will be some classic drum n’ bass from the veteran group Black Sun Empire, along with the one and only,The Crystal Method bringing their unique breakbeat and alternative sound. Plus, there’s definitely no shortage of bass on the bill this year. Trap and fans will rejoice with the likes of Brillz, Crizzly, K Theory, and Buku. We can’t forget the dubstep superstar Datsik that will lay down some serious bass on the main stage. Also we will get a special treat with dj set from Atlanta’s own King of Crunk, Lil Jon. Talk about a wide-spread layout of genres, right?

3. Affordable ticket prices

When the tickets first went on sale last fall for 2015, they were priced at a surprisingly low $50 for GA and $150 for VIP. Currently, tickets are still at a bargain of $129 for GA and $229 for VIP. With a lineup as stacked as this year’s, there is truly no reason not to jump on that cheap of a price for a 2-day festival. You won’t find another festival this summer with a price this low, that’s for certain. The prices are also subject to slightly increase just before the festival, but not by much. You can get tickets for Imagine Music Festival here.

4. Intimate feel with a convenient layout

Smaller, more intimate festivals like IMF can be a wonderful experience. Unlike a huge commercial music festival, the venue is slightly smaller which means less walking for you, and more chances to hear as much music as possible. It’s nice to be at a festival every once in a while where you don’t have to walk what seems like a mile to get to another stage. If you want to hear something else, the next stage is just a short distance away so you won’t miss a thing. Along with the convenience of the venue layout, the crowd is not small, but it is not overcrowded either. It really does create a more intimate feel with a crowd that’s not packed like sardines at a stage.

5. The after party activities

The party won’t stop when the event has to close each night. Imagine Music Festival will be hosting after parties following both days of the festival. On Saturday night, there will be two after parties: one at the Masquerade, which is conveniently located right next to the festival’s venue, and the other being at The Iris venue which is only about a 15 minute drive from the venue. On Sunday night, the after party will be back at the Masquerade venue. The doors will open at 10 pm and close at 3 am each night. The best part about having an after party right next to the venue is that you only have to take a short walk across the park to get there after the music stops. Most 2-day festivals like IMF have their after parties, if they have any, at a different location. Imagine is providing you with an after party literally right next door to the festival’s venue. So the party will quickly move inside where you can rage on until the wee hours of the morning.

Historic Masquerade Venue Confirmed To Be Replaced By New Apartment Complex – (Atlanta, Ga.)

Last year around early November, Atlanta Beltline officials presented plans of replacing one of the city’s most historic music venues, The Masquerade, with a new residential apartment development. The talk wasn’t based around if it would happen, but when it would happen. Now, according to a recent article posted by Costar.com, the project has been confirmed and developers hope to begin building as early as October of 2015; but that date is not official as of yet. It could possibly take even longer to get this project started.

The article from Costar.com states, “SWH Residential Partners, LLC, a development partnership of Worthington Hyde Partners, confirmed last week the purchase of 3.3 acres of land along the Atlanta Beltline for $5.265 million. The purchase from Southeast Capital Companies includes The Masquerade concert venue, and adjacent 1.32 acres, for $2.8 million.”

The plan is to repurpose The Masquerade building into an adapt re-use development. This means that the building will still remain in use, but unfortunately no longer as a music venue. The remainder of the purchased land around The Masquerade will be used to develop an eight-story luxury apartment complex.

The Masquerade is not just a large part of Atlanta’s music scene, but the building itself is a piece of Atlanta history as well. The Masquerade is actually an old excelsior mill which was called the Dupre Excelsior Mill, and is said to have been built between the years of 1890-1905. The old mill finally became the well-known music venue and night club in 1989, The Masquerade. The venue has housed concerts from a wide range of music genres including rock, metal, punk rock, electronic music, and even a little hip-hop as well. The building contains three principle stages that make up the venue: Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell.
This special venue is absolutely one of a kind, and one that cannot be matched by any other in the city of Atlanta. From the old-fashioned stone walls, to the creaky old floors, to its almost spooky looking medieval chandeliers, this venue take you a step back in time when you’re there. Although to the average passerby it might look like abandoned beat up old building with a weathered neon sign which reads, “The Masquerade,” to music lovers, it was their home. It’s a place where some music lovers of so many genres gathered on several nights throughout the week to hear some great music and make some wonderful memories. When walking through that old building, it almost feels like you are in an entrance line to one of those castle-themed rides at an amusement park. It’s really the only way I think I could describe that place to someone who hasn’t been inside before. This beloved venue has brought some huge names in EDM to the city of Atlanta including Skrillex, Nero, Deadmau5, and even Excision. It definitely holds a special place in my heart as well as many other electronic music lover’s hearts in the city of Atlanta.

Despite October being the time that the developer would like to get the ball rolling, The Masquerade still has a shows lined up through October 26th according to their show calendar. Which raises the question, is this truly the time that they will begin the project? It doesn’t appear to be from their schedule. This will definitely be a bittersweet goodbye to a venue in which thousands of people around the city of Atlanta have cherished for so long. So many Atlanta locals have spent much of their youth attending concerts throughout The Masquerade’s 25-year tenure as a venue. There’s certainly been a lot of memories made in that place for so many people, memories that will last for a lifetime. The good news is, there’s still a couple more chances for you ravers out there to enjoy this venue one last time as The Masquerade:  The Mad Decent Block Party which is happening this Friday, July 31st, and the second-annual Imagine Music Festival which is scheduled for Labor Day Weekend, August 29-30th. Both of these must-see events still have tickets available with the links provided below. What better way for EDM lovers to round out many years of amazing music and memories, as well as a great 2015 summer season, than to end it with two incredible events such as Mad Decent Block Party and Imagine Music Festival?

Don Diablo – ‘On My Mind’ (Full Preview)

As we continue through the summer season, more and more feel-good, summer vibe music is being produced seemingly by the day. House music has clearly taken the reigns during the spring and summer months of 2015, and has shown no signs of slowing down. One particular house music producer has been consistently pumping out tons of great new tunes time after time, and that is the one and only, Don Diablo.

It has really been refreshing every single time Don Diablo has put out a new record. It’s like he just doesn’t know how to make a bad track these days. The Dutch producer really got things going back in April when he gave us that wonderful remix of Alex Adair’s, “Make Me Feel Better.” Fast forward to early June, he released that monster original track via Spinnin Records, “Universe,” which gained massive amounts of support from many artists in electronic music around the globe. Just under two weeks ago, Don Diablo released yet another great remix of The Wombats, “Give Me A Try.” That one has already racked up close to a million plays on SoundCloud in just a little over a week!

What all those tracks have in common are those distinct piano melodies and groovy house beats, in which only Don Diablo, himself, has been able to perfect. Just recently, Don Diablo released a full preview of his newest single called, “On My Mind,” which is scheduled to be released via Spinnin Records on July 27th. This is another one of those feel-good tracks that you’ll have on repeat this summer. Like his previous works mentioned, it has those familiar sounds that Don Diablo has mastered- the catchy piano with the bouncy house beat. Something else that you might recognize are the vocals, sampled from the classic 90’s house tune from Junior Jack, “My Feeling.” These vocals go perfectly with the melody that Don Diablo created for this record. I am usually one to shy away from tracks that contain vocal samples from classic tunes, but this one was actually fitting and went hand and hand with the track’s sound.

The track is just so fresh and perfect for listening in any setting. It certainly will have you chair-raving at your desk, or even awkwardly dancing at a stoplight in your car. Whatever it is that you’re doing, this song will definitely get you grooving. With as many quality tracks that Don Diablo has produced over the last 3 to 4 months, it leaves you wondering what else the house music prodigy has in store for the rest of 2015.

Marshmello’s Identity Possibly Revealed by Skrillex in an Interview with Katie Couric

Theories and rumors seem like they surface daily within the music industry these days. Some are worthy of talking about, while others are typically just nonsense that don’t deserve any time of day at all. It just depends on how juicy the story is, right? One thing to keep in mind when rumors are flying and everyone is talking, is that these are just theories and not the actual truth. Remember when there was this crazy idea that Zhu was perhaps Skrillex, or even former Krewella member, Rainman? The interweb was all over the place with bloggers trying to put their finger on who they thought the brilliant producer, Zhu, was. Although it was finally confirmed, thanks to an interview from Dancing Astronaut, that it was actually a producer named, Steven Zhu, and not really Skrillex after all. Now there is a new “secret” producer that has caused quite a buzz in the EDM community for the past several months known as Marshmello. The new producer who chose to stay hidden at first has possibly been revealed by Mr. Skrillex himself.

There have been all sorts of Reddit threads, Tweets, Facebook posts, and more on the speculation of the future bass producer’s identity. A couple of names showed up multiple times in these threads as the culprit behind the music of Marshmello- Skrillex, Jauz, and even Sikdope are the three that appear most. All of these names seem valid to be the person behind the music. All three have similar styles that they produce and play live in their sets.

New evidence has appeared, though, when Skrillex did an in-depth interview with Katie Couric a few days ago. The interview covered a broad range of topics on Skrillex from teaming up with Justin Beiber, to drugs in the music scene, to even his crazy hairdo. Towards the end, the interview was suddenly interrupted by a phone call to Skrillex. Couric looked at his phone and said, “It’s Chris.” Skrillex then replies with, “Oh, Marsmello! Let me shout him out.” You can see this for yourself in the interview between Skrillex and Katie Couric below. If you do not wish to watch it in its entirety, you can skip to the 12:30 mark where the phone call from Marshmello occurred.

By doing a little digging, you will find that on Marshmello’s twitter account, he is followed by three key players in this mystery: Dotcom, Sikdope, and Jauz. All three of which might seem like it’s not a big deal to the average listener; but if you look closer, you will find that these producers are managed under a man named Moe Shalizi. These three were big supporters of Marshmello from the beginning. So it comes as to no surprise that all three producers under the same manager would be supporting Marshmello since most managers have some control over the music that these guys share. If you look on producer’s contact info via social media, there you will find out how to book these guys to DJ shows. Just like everyone else, Marshmello has his booking info public as well. What he has in common with both Sikdope and Dotcom is that they are part of Circle Talent Agency.

After finding that little tidbit of information about how to book Marsmhmello, the name Chris will certainly ring a bell if you are familiar with Dotcom’s name, Chris Comstock. All of the lines are seeming to connect with the question of, who exactly is Marshmello? Since the interview between Skrillex and Couric, Marshmello released, “KnOw ME”, a catchy Jersey Club track with trappy influences which includes a picture of Katie Couric in the track’s artwork. Marshmello seems to still be having fun with the fact that everyone wants to know who he is.

With all of this being said, a phone call during a high-profile interview with a legendary interviewer such as Katie Couric is not of the norm, much less her actually addressing the caller as well. You just don’t see something like that happening during an interview of that level. It could have been something that was simply set up by Skrillex, or it could have actually happened by some weird coincidence, who knows? Skrillex is known for his side projects like Dogblood with Boys Noize and his recent JackÜ collab with Diplo. So it doesn’t add up that it could be him as Marshmello, because he’d be way too busy to do three. Then again, it is Skrillex we are talking about. In this day in age, especially in the EDM industry, anything can happen at any given moment. Only time will reveal the mystery behind who Marshmello truly is.
